NEW DELHI: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized approximately 47.805 kilograms of suspected hydroponic marijuana (ganja), valued at around ₹48 crore (1559088 KD), from two foreign nationals arriving from Bangkok, officials said on May 22, 2026.
According to the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), the two Thai nationals were intercepted after they crossed the Green Channel on arrival. Acting on specific profiling inputs and suspicious travel indicators, officers subjected their baggage to detailed inspection.
During the search, officials recovered six vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain high-grade hydroponic cannabis. Of these, four packets weighing around 29 kilograms were found in the baggage of one passenger, while two packets weighing approximately 19 kilograms were recovered from the second passenger.
The total net weight of the seized substance was recorded at 47.805 kilograms, marking one of the largest narcotics seizures at IGI Airport in recent times, officials said.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source, intended recipients, and possible international trafficking links associated with the consignment.
