John Alfred Tinniswood, a 111-year-old great-grandfather has become the world’s oldest person.

LONDON, April 7: John Alfred Tinniswood, a 111-year-old great-grandfather residing in England, has claimed the title of the world’s oldest person following the passing of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez on April 2, as confirmed by Guinness World Records.

Expressing humility towards his remarkable achievement, Tinniswood attributed his longevity to “pure luck,” acknowledging the unpredictable nature of life’s duration. A representative from Guinness World Records visited Tinniswood’s residence to present him with an official certificate, where he shared insights into his life and habits.

Born on August 26, 1912, amidst the backdrop of the Titanic sinking, Tinniswood now resides in a retirement home located in Southport, a coastal town situated approximately 20 miles from his hometown of Liverpool. Described affectionately by the staff as “a big chatterbox,” Tinniswood remains actively engaged in conversations and daily routines.

Having worked in accounts for Shell and BP oil and gas company until his retirement in 1972, Tinniswood still manages his finances and stays updated with current affairs through a radio. Despite his advanced age, he maintains a simple approach to diet, regularly enjoying fish and chips every Friday.

Tinniswood emphasized moderation in lifestyle choices, refraining from smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption. Reflecting on his philosophy, he remarked, “If you do too much of anything, you’re going to suffer eventually.”

His late wife Blodwen, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage, passed away in 1986. Tinniswood, who is also the oldest surviving male World War II veteran, treasures his family connections, boasting four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Recognized as the oldest man in the UK since 2020, Tinniswood received an annual birthday card from the late Queen Elizabeth after reaching the age of 100. Offering advice to younger generations, he encouraged them to approach life with diligence and dedication, emphasizing the importance of putting forth their best effort in all endeavors.

As Tinniswood continues to inspire with his resilience and wisdom, his remarkable journey stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of humanity across generations.
