Man arrested after teddy bear filled with explosives detonated in parking lot

LOS ANGELES, Oct 19, (Agencies): A man is now in police custody after a startling incident in the parking lot of a California business, involving the detonation of a teddy bear that concealed an explosive device.

The San Bernardino Police Department issued a statement via Facebook on Tuesday, reporting that officers were summoned to the scene following alerts from witnesses. They were informed that a sizable teddy bear had exploded at the front of the business, raising concerns about a possible explosive device.

The Facebook release humorously quipped, “Explosive investigation… Literally!” It went on to explain that detectives delved into surveillance footage of the incident and, as a result, developed leads that prompted the execution of a search warrant.

During the search of the suspect’s residence, authorities uncovered a stash that included over 200 rounds of ammunition, an unregistered firearm known as a “ghost gun,” and slightly more than a kilogram of methamphetamine packaged for distribution, as outlined in the police statement.

Additionally, the search revealed illicit fireworks, a ballistic vest, a sum of money, as well as various tools like metal saws and pipes consistent with the construction of explosive devices, as noted in the official release.

All seized evidence was cataloged by the authorities, and the identity of the suspect, who remains undisclosed, led to his arrest on multiple felony charges, the release further mentioned.

San Bernardino Police Department Sergeant Chris Gray disclosed that the explosion occurred on September 14, shortly after 12:30 pm, in the 100 block of West Baseline Street. He identified the suspect as a male and admitted uncertainty regarding the motive, saying, “You just never know what tomorrow brings.”
