Malia Obama

PARK CITY, Utah, Jan 20: Malia Obama, the former first daughter, has taken a creative leap into the world of filmmaking, showcasing her short film titled "The Heart" at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Making her appearance on the festival's red carpet, Malia, who is credited without her last name on the video page, wrote and directed the film.

"We hope that you enjoy the film and that it makes you feel a bit less lonely, or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are," she adds in a voiceover.

Malia's venture into filmmaking aligns with the creative pursuits of her parents. In 2018, Barack and Michelle Obama's company, Higher Ground Productions, secured a development deal with Netflix, resulting in notable projects like last month's thriller "Leave the World Behind," featuring Mahershala Ali and Julia Roberts, and the Emmy-winning documentary "Working: What We Do All Day," narrated by Barack Obama.

Sundance reports that "The Heart" is part of the Short Film Program 1 at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
