Malaysian Embassy marks 1st National Sports Day in Kuwait – Ambassador Abd Ghani outlines importance of sports day

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: The Embassy of Malaysia held its first sports day in Kuwait on Saturday at the Malaysian embassy premises in celebration of its country’s national sports day under the auspices of Ambassador of Malaysia to Kuwait Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani.

Abd Ghani welcomed all the Malaysian citizens in Kuwait and outlined the importance of sports day which hopes to foster unity and camaraderie among Malaysians in Kuwait as well as those in other parts of the world. He cited that it also helps create awareness on the importance of health and exercise through sports activities.

 “The National Sports Day is celebrated on second Saturday of the month of October all over the world, Malaysia has taken its place among the icons of Olympics to name a few; World Badminton Player Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Asia’s fastest man Datuk M. Jegathesan, Victorious Malaysian team of the 60s, World squash champion Nicol David and many others,” he stated.

He also thanked all the Malaysians who extended their support to their contingent that participated in the Asian shooting championship in October. He once again enjoined  his compatriots to support the Malaysian players who will compete in December in Kuwait.

The event kicked off with an Islamic prayer and the singing of the Malaysian National Anthem. The Gym Team instructors led by Ricky Laxa of The Viking Club of the Radisson Blu hotel and Jam of Rush Gym invited the crowd to a fifteen-minute warm up of Cardio Zumba.

Events like darts, chess, badminton and table tennis were held and winners received their prizes during the awarding ceremony.

 “We thank everyone who volunteered to make this event possible and to all those who prepared refreshments and food for everyone and everyone who participated in the occasion,” stated Abd Ghani.
