BEIJING, July 28: Kuwait’s star Yousef Mohammed Madouh capped an outstanding campaign by finishing as the top scorer of the 19th Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship in China with 68 goals, the highest tally among all players in the tournament.
The individual honor came despite Kuwait ending its campaign in fifth place after a series of competitive matches against the continent's leading teams. Although the Blue missed out on a semifinal berth and a place at the World Championship, the team earned praise for its spirited performances throughout the tournament.
Madouh's scoring crown is a major achievement for Kuwaiti handball. It highlights both his clinical finishing and the work put in by the player and the coaching staff during the team's preparations. He remained a consistent attacking threat from the opening match to the final game, emerging as one of the tournament's standout performers.
The young forward credited the achievement to his teammates, saying the award reflected a collective effort rather than an individual accomplishment.
"I am very happy to finish as the tournament's top scorer, but this achievement belongs to the whole team. My teammates played a huge role in helping me reach this number by creating scoring opportunities and supporting me throughout the competition," Madouh said.
He added that Kuwait delivered a commendable performance despite the strength of the opposition, emphasizing that every player gave everything on the court to represent the country with pride.
"The fifth-place finish does not truly reflect the level we displayed during the championship. We fought hard in every match and showed that Kuwait can compete with the best teams in Asia," he said.
