Macron calls for urgent diplomatic solution, plans multinational mission for Hormuz

PARIS, Apr13: French President Emmanuel Macron has called for intensified diplomatic efforts to reach a “strong and lasting” settlement to the Middle East conflict, stressing that no effort should be spared to restore stability and security across the region.

In a statement, Macron said any long-term solution must address key issues, including Iran’s nuclear and ballistic activities, its regional role, and the urgent need to restore free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring Lebanon’s return to peace while respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Macron said France stands ready to play a full role in resolving the crisis, as it has since the conflict began. He announced that France, together with the United Kingdom, will organize a conference in the coming days with partner countries to establish a peaceful multinational mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the strait.

He emphasized that the proposed mission would be strictly defensive, separate from the warring parties, and designed to be deployed as soon as conditions allow.
