KUWAIT CITY, Dec 4: In a meticulously executed operation, officers from the Hawally Governorate Criminal Investigation Department( Hawally and Shaab Criminal Investigation Office) brought down an expatriate scammer who had perfected a calculated scheme to deceive women with the allure of luxury fashion. His method was simple yet sinister: he sent enticing photographs of high-end designer handbags via WhatsApp, promised exclusive deals, then delivered counterfeit items and vanished after siphoning money through electronic transfers.

The case, officially registered as one of “fraud and deception,” began when a woman stepped forward to file a complaint. She recounted how she had come across a seemingly legitimate advertisement on social media promoting the sale of women’s handbags from renowned global brands. Intrigued, she contacted the seller. What followed was a polished exchange—he sent her a curated set of stunning images showcasing premium handbags, each appearing undeniably authentic.

After selecting her dream handbag, she agreed to pay 650 dinars, which she transferred through the “WAMD” application. A short while later, a representative (likely another accomplice) arrived at her doorstep and handed over the product. But the glamour faded instantly. The moment she inspected the bag, doubt crept in. Something felt off. Seeking reassurance, she reached out to the official brand distributor, only to receive crushing confirmation: the bag was a counterfeit.

When she attempted to confront the seller and reclaim her money, the deception became even clearer. He denied everything, abruptly cut communication, switched off his phone, and blocked her completely—vanishing into the digital shadows.

A security source revealed that once the complaint reached the Hawally Criminal Investigation Department, detectives moved swiftly. They traced the suspect, summoned him, and confronted him face-to-face with the victim. Cornered and unable to sustain the lie, he confessed entirely. His deceit ran deeper than the initial case—he admitted he had ensnared several other women using the same tactic, dazzling them with photos of genuine designer bags while delivering cheap imitations at exorbitant prices.

Investigators now believe that some victims may still be flaunting counterfeit handbags, unaware that they were ever deceived, especially since no similar complaints have been lodged so far.

With his full confession recorded, the investigating officer ordered the suspect’s referral to the competent authorities to carry out the necessary legal action—effectively ending his lucrative string of fraudulent operations.
