WASHINGTON, March 7, (Agencies): A black cat played a vital role in the rescue of a “trail of kittens” following the devastating Texas wildfires. The Texas Game Wardens shared the heartwarming story on Facebook, recounting how the feline hero crossed paths with game warden Sarah Wennersten near Lubbock, Texas.

Wennersten, engaged in “mapping and assessing” the aftermath of the Smokehouse Creek Fire that erupted on February 26, encountered the lucky black cat during her duties. Remarkably, after the initial meeting, other kittens began to emerge, forming what the agency described as a “trail of kittens” in front of the game warden.

Upon closer inspection, Wennersten noticed that one of the kittens had singed fur and an injured paw. The Texas Task Force medic promptly provided treatment, determining that the injuries were not life-threatening. Unfortunately, the owners of the kittens couldn’t be located as the area had been evacuated during the wildfires, as per the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The rescued kittens received care in the form of food and water and are slated for regular check-ups by the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team, ensuring their well-being in the aftermath of the Texas wildfires.
