NEW DELHI, May 2: A Marshall Islands-flagged tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for India has successfully crossed the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, India’s Ministry of Shipping confirmed on Saturday.
The vessel, identified as the Sarv Shakti, is transporting 46,313 metric tons of LPG destined for India. According to the ministry statement, the tanker is now en route to the eastern Indian port of Visakhapatnam.
Officials said the ship, which has a crew of 20 members on board, is expected to arrive at its destination on May 13.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy shipments, is closely monitored due to its importance in international trade routes, particularly for oil and gas shipments passing between the Gulf and global markets.
The ministry did not report any disruption or security concerns during the vessel’s passage and confirmed that the voyage is proceeding as scheduled.
