KUWAIT CITY, Dec 25: Christian communities on Monday celebrated Christmas in a noticeably subdued atmosphere as the whole country continues to mourn the death of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, reports the Arab Times. HH the late Amir passed away on Dec 16, 2023; hence, the State of Kuwait declared the 40-day mourning period that ends on Jan 25, 2024.

Given this, the Christmas activities throughout the country have been low-key. Churches were crowded like in previous years, but the programs are not as grand and boisterous since the mourning period has been taken into consideration. After the Church service, Christian families simply gathered in their homes for the traditional Christmas Eve dinner sans music, games and other festive programs. This is in addition to the cancellation of events in hotels and other venues.
