Haidari statement provocative: Kuwaiti MPs

KUWAIT CITY, April 27: MPs Abdulkareem Al- Kandari and Khalid Al-Otaibi urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait Al-Manhal Al-Safiand then hand over to him a strongly worded letter in response to the provocative statement of Iraqi MP Alaa Al-Haidari. Al-Kandari stressed the need for the Iraqi Ambassador to receive a protest letter against the offensive phrases in the press statement of Al-Haidari who attacked the Kuwaiti Coast Guard. If the Iraqi authorities do not take action against Al-Haidari, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs must adopt a diplomatic position on the issue, he added. Al-Otaibi accused Al-Haidari of getting electoral gains by offending Kuwait. MP Abdullah Al-Mudaf asserted the parliamentary election in Iraq should not push its MPs toward madness, while calling to mind what he considers the period of hatred in history.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Majdi Al-Dhafiri met Wednesday Iraq’s Ambassador to Kuwait Al-Manhal Al-Safi, and they discussed bilateral ties between both countries. The two sides tackled the latest remarks of an Iraqi Parliament Member, regarding claims of attacking Iraqi Fishermen. Al-Dhafiri expressed the rejection and resentment of Kuwait regarding those remarks that do not refl ect the deep-ties between both countries, and do not meet the principles of good neighborliness. Al-Dhafiri refuted such allegations and highly trusted the integrity of the procedures followed by the Kuwaiti Coast Guard forces. He praised the continuous cooperation between the Kuwaiti Coast Guard Force and the Iraqi Naval Forces in dealing with the violations of Iraqi fishermen of sailing into Kuwaiti territorial waters.

In another development, MP Ahmad Al-Hamad said the intention of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to cancel the specified price list by the end of Ramadan indicates that the government is abandoning the citizens; leaving them prey to greedy traders. He warned these traders will specify the prices to serve personal interests without any regard for public welfare. He added the attitude of the ministry is unacceptable on public and parliamentary grounds. Meanwhile, MP Osama Al- Menawer forwarded queries to Minister of Social Affairs and Societal Development and Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Urban Development Mubarak Al-Arow about the vacancies at the Office of the Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW). He wants to know the number of vacant supervisory posts which the ministry intends to fill before the end of 2022; number of expatriate employees in the office and PAHW; number of terminated expatriates in line with the replacement policy; number of appointed nationals from Jan 1, 2021 till date; if expatriates have been appointed since the beginning of 2020 till date; if yes, he requested for a list of these expatriates including their qualifications and job description.
