KUWAIT CITY, Sept 7: The fish market auctions in Sharq concluded recently with prices ranging from KD 5 to KD 150 for ten kilograms of local fish, and from KD 5 to KD 95 for a basket of imported fish. Director of the Commercial Control Department Faisal Al-Ansari said, “Based on instructions from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Ziad Al-Najem, the Commercial Control Team, led by Al-Ansari and accompanied by Head of the East Center Yousef Al-Fanini and a group of inspectors, attended the auction.
Their role was to monitor the adherence to fish auction requirements and ensure compliance with the ministry’s conditions and instructions. The prices for the Kuwaiti Zubaidi fish, which is popular among both citizens and residents, range from KD 30 to KD 150. The price of a basket of shrimp (Umm Naira) ranges from KD 21 to KD 60.
A basket of shrimp (Shahamiya) ranges from KD 13 to KD 21, Hamour fish from KD 22 to KD 35, Sheem fish from KD 10 to KD 32, Sea Bream fish from KD 16 to KD 35, and Nuwaibi fish from KD 25 to KD 36.” Regarding imported fish, Al-Ansari said the auction prices ranged from KD 40 to KD 95 for Zubaidi cod and KD 14 to KD 38 for Hamour cod.
A basket of jumbo shrimp was priced between KD 65 and KD 73, a basket of Umm Naira shrimp ranged from KD 40 to KD 55, and a basket of Shahamiya shrimp ranged from KD 15 to KD 21. He affirmed that the Commercial Control Department will continue its inspection tours to ensure adherence to Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s regulations and to enforce laws against any price manipulation or non-compliance.
