Lekjaa: Morocco to host 2030 World Cup final

RABAT: Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa has claimed that Morocco will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final at the planned Hassan II Stadium in Ben Slimane, near Casablanca.

FIFA has yet to officially decide which stadium will stage the final, with Morocco and Spain competing to host the tournament’s showpiece match.

According to Spanish news agency EFE, Lekjaa made the claim during a political event in Bouznika, saying that Ben Slimane Province would have the honor of hosting the 2030 World Cup final.

Located about 60 kilometers from Casablanca, Ben Slimane is home to the Hassan II Stadium, which is currently under construction. The $12 billion venue is expected to accommodate around 115,000 spectators, potentially making it the world’s largest football stadium.

The 2030 World Cup will be unique in scope, with matches being staged across six countries on three continents. Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will host the tournament’s three centenary opening matches, while most of the competition will be played in Morocco, Portugal and Spain.

FIFA has not yet finalized all the host cities, and Spain is also pushing to stage the final.

Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán said earlier this month that Spain should host the tournament’s decisive match.
