KUWAIT CITY, May 20: MP Riyadh Al-Adsani has unveiled his plan to present a grilling request against His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Thursday if there is no denial or confirmation regarding MP Ahmed Al-Fadel’s claim about granting financial assistance to MPs.

He said if it is true that the government granted financial assistance to MPs, it will weaken their parliamentary oversight role and put them in the circle of doubt in terms of receiving gifts or assistance. He pointed out, “We do not know if financial assistance is really needed by the constituents of Al-Fadel.” He added citizens are aware that the Zakat House, Ministry of Social Affairs and other agencies provide assistance from the offices of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Council of Ministers so they can just go to any of these institutions if they need help.

He said he will not hesitate in holding the prime minister accountable if the latter does not issue a statement denying the allegation of Al- Fadel. “The purchase of loyalty is rejected and the MPs should not resort to the government if they need financial assistance. Al-Fadel claimed all MPs are asking for such assistance. This is a lie,” he asserted. Meanwhile, MP Ahmad Al-Fadel submitted questions to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah about the licensing of taxis.

He demanded for details like the number of licensed mobile taxis, number of licensed on demand taxis that require booking through phone or any other means, details of licenses issued to mobile and on demand taxis, and photocopies of commercial licenses granted to taxi companies attached to the owners’ files at the Ministry of Interior.

On another issue, MP Hamoud Al-Khudair called for establishment of an integrated hospital for drug addicts with the necessary medical and technical personnel and equipment. He said drug addiction is one of the serious problems that the country is facing, indicating there are victims of drug abuse who need proper healthcare. He also emphasized the need for an intensified public awareness campaign on drugs.

In addition, Al-Khudair has proposed the establishment of a youth center in Al-Aqeelah with sports equipment. He said the center should consist of a cultural section which organizes cultural, social and religious activities. He added the center will play a crucial role in encouraging youths to engage in sports as this is essential in building a responsible generation keen on contributing to national development.
