Leave Iran, Germany Urges its Citizens - Cuts Embassy Services

BERLIN, Jul 24: Germany has reduced operations at its embassy in Tehran while renewing its call for German citizens to leave Iran amid ongoing security concerns, the German Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

The ministry said the embassy remains open, but consular and visa services are being provided only on an emergency basis and with limited capacity.

Officials said Berlin is closely monitoring the security situation in Iran and remains in regular contact with its diplomatic mission in Tehran.

“The safety of our embassy staff is our top priority,” the ministry said, adding that protective measures are being continuously reviewed and adjusted in response to the evolving situation.

According to the ministry, the embassy is currently unable to operate at full capacity because of restrictions imposed by Iranian authorities on diplomatic accreditations, limiting the services it can provide.

Germany also reiterated its travel warning for Iran and again urged all German nationals to leave the country.

The Foreign Ministry encouraged German citizens still in Iran to register with the ELEFAND crisis preparedness system to receive security updates and emergency notifications from the embassy.

Berlin noted that its travel warning and recommendation for citizens to leave Iran, first issued several years ago, remain in effect and will continue to be reviewed based on developments.

The announcement comes as regional tensions remain high following continued military exchanges between Iran and the United States, prompting several countries to reassess their diplomatic operations and travel advisories.
