Laura Linney joins Mortensen’s family drama ‘Falling’

Elba in talks to join Serkis in ‘Mouse Guard’

LOS ANGELES, March 25, (RTRS): Laura Linney, Hannah Gross, and Terry Chen have joined the cast of Viggo Mortensen’s family drama “Falling”. The movie will be Mortensen’s directorial debut. He’s also producing, wrote the screenplay, and is playing one of the two leading roles in a story about a son’s relationship with his aging father. Production is currently underway in Toronto. It will also shoot in Los Angeles.

Mortensen will portray a man who lives with his partner, played by Chen, and their adopted daughter in Southern California. Linney will play his sister and Gross will portray his mother. Lance Henriksen will play the father, a farmer whose attitudes and behavior belong to a far more traditional era and family model. He travels to Los Angeles for an indefinite stay with his family as he deals with memory loss.

“Falling” is produced by Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films and Chris Curling of Zephyr Films together with Mortensen, who previously produced “Everyone Has a Plan”, “Far From Men” and “Jauja” through Perceval Pictures. It is funded by Perceval Pictures, Ingenious Media, Falling, LLC, Scythia Films, Zephyr Films and Lip Sync Productions. Executive producers are Peter Touche and Stephen Dailey for Ingenious Media, Danielle Virtue and Brian Hayes Currie for Falling, LLC and Norman Merry for Lip Sync Productions.

HanWay Films is handling international sales and distribution, and UTA Independent Film Group is overseeing the US sale.

Linney has received Academy Award nominations for “You Can Count on Me”, “Kinsey” and “The Savages”. Mortensen has also earned Oscar nominations for “Green Book”, “Eastern Promises” and “Captain Fantastic”. Gross’ credits include “Mindhunter”, and Chen starred in “House of Cards”.

LOS ANGELES: Idris Elba is in negotiations to join Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in Fox’s fantasy-action movie “Mouse Guard” with “Maze Runner’s” Wes Ball directing.

Fox is planning a live-action movie through performance capture technology employed in the “Planet of the Apes” films, in which Serkis starred as the ape leader Caesar. David Peterson created, wrote, and illustrated the “Mouse Guard” series, which launched in 2006 and is set in a medieval times world without humans. The stories center on a brotherhood of mice sworn to serve their fellow mice.

Fox started development on the movie, based on the “Mouse Guard” graphic novel series, in 2016. Matt Reeves, director of “War for the Planet of the Apes”, is producing “Mouse Guard” through his 6th and Idaho production company along with Ross Richie and Stephen Christy, both of Boom! Studios – the publisher of “Mouse Guard”. Joe Hartwick Jr is also producing.

If the deal goes through, Elba will portray Celanawe, a hermit figure who has long live outside mouse dwellings. Serkis will portray the villainous blacksmith Midnight and Brodie-Sangster will play Lieam, one of the Mouse Guard’s youngest members. Production is expected to begin in the late spring.

Variety reported earlier this month that Elba was Warner Bros’ choice to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the “Suicide Squad” sequel. he’s starring in the upcoming Netflix series “Turn Up Charlie” and will appear on the big screen for “The Fast and the Furious” spinoff “Hobbs and Shaw” alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, as well as Universal’s “Cats” adaptation.

LOS ANGELES: Emily Blunt is in negotiations to star in Annapurna’s inspirational drama “Not Fade Away” with David O. Russell and John Krasinski producing.

The project is based on Rebecca Alexander’s 2015 memoir “Not Fade Away: A Memoir of Senses Lost and Found”. Alexander was born with a rare genetic mutation called Usher syndrome type III and has been simultaneously losing both her sight and hearing since she was a child. A fall from a window left her body completely shattered at the age of 18, but over the next two decades, she became a psychotherapist with two masters’ degrees and an athlete who teaches spin classes – despite her limited sight and hearing.

Lindsey Ferrentino is adapting the screenplay. Krasinski and Allyson Seeger are producing through their Sunday Night production company, along with Russell and Matthew Budman.

Blunt recently received a Golden Globe and SAG nomination for “Mary Poppins Returns”. She will next be seen starring in “Jungle Cruise” opposite Dwayne Johnson.

Krasinski is returning to direct the untitled sequel to Paramount’s horror hit “A Quiet Place” with Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds reprising their characters. “A Quiet Place” grossed $340 million at the global box office last year. Since then, the film has won several awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Award for Blunt in the supporting actress category. The sequel has been dated for a May 15, 2020 release.
