KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has extended the validity of freelance business licenses (home-based licenses) for real estate brokerage activities by one month, allowing license holders additional time to regularize their operations. These licenses will permanently cease to be valid on September 1, 2026. Head of the Real Estate Brokers Union Imad Haidar explained that home-based licenses were originally scheduled to expire on August 1. However, the union appealed to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to grant an extension, allowing license holders to comply with the new regulations.
The decision affects 583 real estate brokers. Former Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajil had previously suspended the issuance of new home-based licenses for brokerage activities while allowing existing licenses to remain valid. However, the current Minister of Commerce and Industry Osama Boodai issued a decision to permanently discontinue home-based licenses as part of the ministry’s plan to regulate the real estate brokerage market and enhance professionalism and oversight within the sector.
