‘About 4,500 benefit from amnesty so far’

KUWAIT CITY, April 20: The last day for receiving violators of residency law from the Indian community is Monday, April 20, after which the two reception centers allocated for this purpose will start receiving violators of Sri Lankan nationality.

Hundreds of Indian violators of residence law collect at one of the centers.

However, security sources revealed that the departure dates for the Indians who have surrendered themselves are yet to be determined as the authorities in India are refusing to receive them until further notice.

They explained that about 1,000 Indian violators registered on Saturday, April 18 to take advantage of the deadline set by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh from April 1 to April 30. The main obstacle preventing Indian violators from registering is that many of them do not have travel documents.

About 4,500 Indians have so far benefited from the amnesty, as of the third day of the fiveday period allocated for receiving Indian violators.

Violators
In this regard, head of shelter and repatriation of residency law violators Major General Abideen Al-Abideen told the daily that all violators, regardless of the period of their residency violation in the country, qualify to be deported as per the amnesty guidelines.

He stressed that those who fail to grasp this opportunity by the end of April 30 would have relinquished the privileges of the amnesty such as free tickets, adding that it is necessary for the safety of the violators and the entire society of Kuwait to them to benefit from the grace period, which will expire in about ten days.

For the third consecutive day, Ministry of Interior received about 1,000 Indian violators of residency law at the reception center in Farwaniya area, bringing the total of Indians received in the last three days to about 3,000, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to a security source, Ministry of Interior has made use of all possibilities to facilitate the violators in completing their procedures and benefiting from the “Leave Safely” campaign but not paying fines and travel tickets. Receiving the Indian community will continue until April 20, after which Sri Lankan violators of residency law will be received for the next five days.

Violators of all nationalities are being received in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh reception center since the beginning of this month.
