Kuwait’s world-renowned jetski champion bags gold in Belgium

17-member Kuwait team participated

BRUSSELS, July 8, (KUNA): Kuwait’s world-renowned jetski champion Mohammad Burbayea has won a gold medal in the Jettribe European Jetski Championship held in Belgium.

Abdulwahab Al-Omar, a member of the Kuwaiti jetski team told KUNA Monday that Kuwait won one gold in the pro category, and Mohammad Al-Baz took 4th place, while Abdurrahman Al-Omar came fifth in the same category. In the experts category, Salem Al-Muttawa came third, he noted.

A 17-member Kuwait team participated in the European Championship that took take place in Belgium at the Lakes of Eau d’Heure from July 3-7.

Kuwait’s ambassador to Belgium, the EU and NATO, Jassem Al-Budaiwi hosted today a reception for the Kuwaiti team.

“I am extremely happy and honoured over the participation of the Kuwaiti team, which also won a gold medal,” Al Budaiwi told KUNA.

He noted that it is the second year that the Kuwaiti team participated in this championship, adding that “they performed with big achievement.”

“Kuwait has been a leader in the sports field. Sports is a big part of Kuwait’s culture and we have achieved many wins and medals in international events,” he said.

Some 33 countries with 300 racers took part in the event, including from Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The Eau d’Heure Lakes is a complex of five artificial lakes, forming the largest lake area in Belgium. It is situated about 100 km south of Brussels.

The Brussels even is part of the 1st annual World Cup Series.

This series will allow jetskiers to take part in the Lake Havasu World Finals in the US and the Jetski World Cup in Thailand later this year.
