KUWAIT CITY, Oct 31: The latest official statistics revealed that the Family Welfare Department in the Social Development General Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs allocated KD11,506,779.36 aid for divorced women, widows and housewives, in line with the commitment of the government to improve the living conditions of citizens and maintain social stability. The newspaper obtained a copy of the statistics, indicating that the financial support for housewives is the highest at a total of KD7,625,021.04, followed by divorced women with KD3,093,501.59 and widows with KD788,256.73.
Separately, Minister of Social, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah said the recent appointment of members to the boards of some cooperative societies was carried out under Article 35 of the applicable law, to correct conditions, address violations, and strengthen oversight and governance to safeguard shareholders’ assets and consumers’ rights. Speaking during a meeting with newly appointed board members on Wednesday, Al-Huwailah said appointed members enjoy no advantage over elected members.
On the contrary, she said, they bear a greater responsibility because of the trust placed in them by the state. She explained that the appointments are intended to support reform, follow up on violations, and advance investigations—not to replace elected boards or diminish their role. She stressed that compliance with directives, decisions, and regulations governing cooperative work is mandatory.
