KUWAIT CITY, July 17: Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said Friday that one of the country's power generation and water desalination plants had been struck during what it described as an Iranian attack on the State of Kuwait, causing damage to the facility and prompting the activation of emergency response plans.

In Statement No. 19, the ministry said the attack damaged parts of the plant, sparked a fire and affected a large number of electricity generation units, requiring immediate emergency measures to contain the incident and preserve the stability of the national power grid.

According to the ministry, General Fire Force teams responded promptly to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. Technical and emergency teams from the ministry, working in coordination with the relevant authorities, have since begun assessing the damage, securing the facility and implementing technical and precautionary measures to restore the affected generating units to service as quickly as possible while adhering to the highest safety standards.

The ministry said its engineers and emergency crews are continuing to work around the clock to ensure the stability of Kuwait's electricity network, closely monitor grid performance and take all necessary steps to minimize any disruption to electricity and water services.

Appealing to the public, the ministry urged citizens and residents to conserve electricity during the exceptional circumstances, saying that reducing power consumption would help maintain the stability of the national grid and enable technical teams to manage the system more efficiently while repair work continues.

The ministry stressed that public cooperation is an essential part of the national response, adding that every effort to reduce electricity consumption would strengthen the grid's ability to withstand the current situation and support the rapid rehabilitation of the damaged facilities.

It said updates on the situation would continue to be issued through its official communication channels.
