KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23, (Agencies): Within a new vision and strategy for the upcoming phase, the General Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources continues its concerted efforts to execute an emergency plan for ornamental farming and its development in the country across multiple stages as part of the new strategic vision.
Engineer Yusuf Al-Mousawi, the head of the emergency team and supervisor of the third region in the sector of ornamental farming at the Authority, stated today that this initiative aligns with the Cabinet's decision number 818, which established a working team to oversee the plan's progress and coordinate collaboration between governmental and private sector entities and civil society organizations.
Al-Mousawi pointed out the formation of the National Committee for Ornamental Agriculture alongside the creation of a working team to monitor the progress of the plan specific to the ornamental sector. Their aim is to enhance ornamental farming, add aesthetic touches to streets and roads, and protect the Kuwaiti environment.
He mentioned that the Authority places great importance on ornamental farming through this plan, introducing a fresh and clear vision to overcome past obstacles. This will involve rescuing plants and identifying dead ones for replacement. The plan also includes inspecting irrigation networks and coordinating with relevant authorities to establish a crisis management team to address any challenges. Afterward, contracts will be awarded and closely monitored.
Furthermore, Al-Mousawi emphasized the adoption of an organized agricultural approach. The plan will revamp agriculture, and maintain areas, and fast lanes under the supervision of a well-organized scientific team. Following this, suitable plants that can withstand water scarcity and exhibit greenery throughout the year, such as the Acacia tree, Sidr tree, and Mother-in-law's tongue plant, will be planted.
Regarding the work program and vital locations set for the plan, it will commence with a focus on the capital governorate and part of the Farwaniya governorate, encompassing the Airport Road, Fifth Ring Road, and the Fahaheel Road to align with the plan's objectives of emphasizing ornamental farming within vital regions.
Al-Mousawi indicated that the initiative to green the airport road is among the most critical initiatives. The General Supervision and Irrigation Network will be executed by the Authority for ornamental farming, and the private sector will be responsible for the plantation. As for maintenance, it will be a private-sector initiative.
In terms of the plan's key points, it is initiated by focusing on the capital governorate, a section of the Farwaniya governorate, and the following key locations: the airport road, the Fifth Ring Road, and the Fahaheel Road. The goal is to establish an organized design for various sites across the country to harmonize the aesthetic appearance, ensuring the planted vegetation aligns with Kuwait's climate and can withstand heat, salinity, and weather fluctuations.
Al-Mousawi emphasized that the ornamental farming sector specializes in the design, execution, and supervision of various ornamental farming works, including roads, squares, public gardens, parks, and zoos.
