Kuwait’s taste revolution: Bloggers drive the surge in food tourism
Food bloggers propel Kuwait to the top of the regional culinary tourism map.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Kuwait is emerging as a major regional destination for food tourism, fueled by the influence of digital restaurant bloggers who have played a pivotal role in promoting the country’s vibrant culinary scene. These bloggers, once casual enthusiasts, have evolved into professional digital media entities, shaping public opinion, driving consumer choices, and boosting restaurant revenues through detailed reviews and expert evaluations.

As Kuwait's food service sector continues to flourish, its digital bloggers have become key influencers, impacting both consumer preferences and restaurant performance. According to recent studies, food bloggers have a significant influence on restaurant success, with their reviews motivating businesses to improve food quality and service in response to public feedback. Negative reviews, in particular, can lead to a decline in consumer trust, which directly affects sales.

The country’s food service market is projected to see substantial growth. According to Scots International Research, Kuwait's food service market earned approximately $3.25 billion in 2024, with expectations to reach $4.88 billion by 2029 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.4 percent. Meanwhile, Verified Markets forecasts that Kuwait’s restaurant, café, and cloud kitchen market will hit $38 billion by 2032, driven by a 10 percent annual growth rate and increased revenue from the country’s growing tourism sector.

Kuwait’s tourism industry is also expanding rapidly, with projections showing a jump in revenues from $522 million in 2021 to approximately $1.13 billion by the end of this year, according to the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority. This growth is fueled by both the rising influx of tourists and the country’s increasingly diverse and high-quality dining offerings.

In this competitive environment, one of the biggest challenges facing food bloggers is maintaining the credibility of their reviews, especially as paid collaborations become more widespread. To address this, bloggers are advocating for the establishment of clear professional standards, such as full disclosure of any commercial partnerships and adherence to objective evaluation criteria. This is seen as essential to maintaining transparency as bloggers continue to support Kuwait's tourism and economic growth.

Abdulrahman Al-Qwaiee, a prominent food blogger, emphasized the evolution of restaurant blogging in Kuwait. “What started as a hobby has now become a profession that shapes public taste and contributes to the country’s cultural identity,” Al-Qwaiee told KUNA. He stressed that successful bloggers must possess the knowledge to assess diverse cuisines and ingredients, especially in a country known for its wide range of both local and international dining options. Al-Qwaiee also highlighted the growing appeal of Kuwaiti restaurants, which play a crucial role in preserving the country’s culinary heritage.

Abdulaziz Al-Najjar, another influential blogger, shared how his journey began with healthy food tips for friends and followers before evolving into the concept of an “open meal,” where athletes treat themselves to indulgent meals after a week of disciplined eating. “Kuwait has become a key destination for food enthusiasts, driven by the diverse tastes of its people,” Al-Najjar explained. “This drives restaurants to elevate their food quality and service.”

Food blogger Moath Adnan, who started by reviewing dishes from various restaurants on social media, stressed the importance of credibility in his work. Adnan explained that Kuwait’s long exposure to international cuisines since the 1960s has shaped the tastes of Kuwaitis, giving them a refined palate. “I refuse to promote any food product that does not align with my personal taste,” he said, advocating for a professional framework to guide the work of food bloggers.

Kuwait’s diverse food scene continues to attract visitors from around the world, with many coming specifically for culinary tourism. Bloggers play an essential role in promoting Kuwait as a top destination for food lovers, as their recommendations drive increased tourist spending on dining, particularly during major events and sporting occasions.

In the face of growing competition in the regional food and hospitality market, Kuwait has successfully carved out a unique identity through its mix of local and international dining options, supported by the influence of digital food bloggers. As the industry continues to thrive, the role of bloggers in shaping consumer behavior and driving growth in the food and tourism sectors will only expand.

The country’s restaurant tourism sector is experiencing increasing interest from tourists, who rely on the recommendations of influential bloggers to discover new dining experiences. The data reflects a significant rise in tourist spending on restaurants, making food bloggers an essential touchpoint for visitors seeking to explore Kuwait’s diverse and high-quality dining offerings.

However, as the industry continues to evolve, bloggers are calling for the establishment of clear professional standards to ensure the credibility and integrity of their work. Their influence, along with their growing role in promoting Kuwaiti tourism and supporting local restaurants, is expected to increase in the coming years.
