Kuwait’s rank in ‘GSPI’ for 2022 increases to 36th place globally

KUWAIT CITY, March 19: Kuwait’s ranking in the Global Soft Power Index (GSPI) for 2022, which is issued by the British “Brand Finance” company that is specialized in evaluating brands, has improved. It now occupies 36th place globally out of 120 countries, and fifth place in the Arab world, reports Al-Rai daily. Kuwait’s rank managed to increase by 3.3 percent from the 42nd position to 36th globally, recording 39.1 points on the general index out of 100 points. Using this indicator, Brand Finance monitors aspects related to culture, heritage, international relations, media and communication, education, science, commerce and business, reputation, and popularity of each country as well as its ability to influence the preferences and behaviors of various parties on the international scene (other countries, institutions and companies, societies, audiences, etc.), through appeal or persuasion, not coercion.

In the sub-indicators, Kuwait scored five points in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, 3.6 points in international relations, 3.9 points in influence, and 5.9 points in reputation. The UAE came first in the Arab world, and ranked 15th in the world, followed by Saudi Arabia in 24th place, then Qatar in 26th place, Egypt in 31st place, and Kuwait in 36th. As for the top countries in the “Global Soft Power Index” for the year 2022, the United States of America topped the index, jumping from sixth place in the 2021 index to first place this year, to achieve a balance of 70.7 degrees in 2022.

The United Kingdom jumped to second place this year from third place last year, and its score jumped seven points to reach 64.9 degrees. Germany lost the lead it occupied last year, and fell to third place this year, despite the rise in its score on the index by 2.4 degrees to reach 64.4 degrees. China jumped from eighth place last year to fourth this year, recording 9.9 degrees and bringing its balance to 64.2 degrees. Japan fell to fifth place in 2022 from second place in 2021, despite advancing 2.9 degrees and achieving a score of 63.5 degrees. France, Canada, Switzerland, Russia, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Australia, and Sweden ranked from sixth to 14 respectively.
