KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: The Ministry of Health is reviewing the possibility of rehiring approximately 100 expatriate doctors who were previously employed in various hospitals and primary health care centers, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Knowledgeable health sources have confirmed this consideration, emphasizing the ministry’s need for their services due to the shortage of doctors.

These doctors had their services terminated months ago upon reaching the legal retirement age, and several of them had collected their outstanding dues, including consultant-level ratings, in different medical specialties.

These sources have clarified that reengaging these doctors will not incur additional costs for the state, as they would be rehired under specific enlistment terms that do not entitle them to severance or similar benefits. Moreover, health regions where these doctors had previously served have communicated their need for their services to the ministry, prompting a careful evaluation of whether to utilize their expertise in the coming days.

Conversely, Dr. Atal Al-Lafi, the Head of the Dermatology Department at the Asaad Al-Hamad Center and the Ministry of Health’s Dermatology Departments, highlighted the substantial patient traffic at the Asaad Al-Hamad Center, averaging approximately 120,000 visitors annually.

During a speech commemorating World Pharmacist Day, Dr. Al-Lafi emphasized the center’s dedication to enhancing the competency of its staff through informative lectures to match the rapid advancements in the medical and pharmaceutical domains.

She underscored the pivotal role pharmacists play within the healthcare system, emphasizing their vital responsibility in educating patients about treatment types and precautions, extending beyond merely dispensing medications.
