Kuwait’s Paralympians ready for Asian challenge

HANGZHOU, China, Oct 17: The Kuwaiti contingent for the Asian Paralympic Games arrived in Hangzhou, China, where the tournament is set to take place from October 22 to 28. This international sporting event will see the participation of 3,000 athletes from 44 different nations, encompassing both men and women.

Mansour Al-Sarhaid, the Chairman of the Kuwait Paralympic Committee, leads the delegation. Kuwait is sending 41 talented athletes, both male and female, who will compete in four distinct sports: athletics, basketball, fencing, and table tennis.

Al-Sarhid expressed his confidence in the level of preparedness of the national teams, assuring that they have undergone comprehensive and satisfactory training ahead of the tournament. He articulated his aspirations for his athletes to attain remarkable achievements during this prominent event, which stands as the largest gathering of athletes on the Asian continent.

He attributed this confidence to the extensive support provided by key figures, such as the Minister of Trade and Industry, Muhammad Al-Aiban, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, as well as the Director General of the General Sports Authority, Yousef Al-Baidan, and his deputy, Bashar Abdullah.

Nizar Ramadan, the coach of the athletics team, praised the excellent preparations, highlighting Faisal Al-Rajhi, a sprinter who underwent intensive training during a two-week camp abroad. The coach expressed hope for Al-Rajhi to secure a high placement across all competitions.

Faisal Al Rajhi, a middle and long-distance wheelchair racer, expressed his elation at being part of the Asian Games, the preeminent sporting event in Asia. He anticipated tough competition, particularly from world champions hailing from China and Thailand in wheelchair racing, emphasizing his ambition to secure top-tier results and leave a distinct Kuwaiti mark on the event.

In the realm of table tennis, Ahed Al-Rashidi was determined to deliver her best performance and acknowledged the formidable competition from elite Asian players. Her morale remained high as she prepared to take on the challenge.

Similarly, Malak Al-Enezi, a member of the athletics team, shared her commitment to contending for top positions. She noted the high spirits and optimal preparedness of her fellow athletes as they aspired to excel in the tournament.
