KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) has launched the Kuwait Wage Protection and Payment System (KWPS), a centralized platform designed to facilitate the transfer of wages for private-sector employees through local banks in Kuwait.
The CBK said the new system will enhance the efficiency, speed and transparency of wage payments, while helping protect workers’ rights and ensuring that salaries are paid on time. It will also enable regulatory authorities to monitor and verify wage payments and identify early cases of non-compliance with relevant instructions.
According to the CBK, KWPS will support financial inclusion and digital transformation, strengthen governance and compliance, and contribute to improving the efficiency of Kuwait’s labour-market regulatory environment.
The system has been developed in line with international best practices and standards for payment systems and complies with ISO 20022, the international standard for financial message exchange.
KWPS is the third system launched under the second phase of Kuwait’s National Payments System project, reflecting the CBK’s efforts to develop an advanced and reliable national payments infrastructure.
The launch follows the introduction of the Kuwait Automated Clearing System (KACH) in January 2026 and the Kuwait Dispute Management System (KDMS) in February 2026.
