KUWAIT CITY, Nov 30: The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), in cooperation with the Canadian Embassy in Kuwait, unveiled a mural in the Sharq area on Saturday as part of the Cultural Exchange Program and the National Mural Art Project, also known as “Third Art.”
Council Secretary-General Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the mural was created through a collaboration between Kuwaiti artist Yousef Saleh and Canadian artist Brian Byung, aiming to provide opportunities for Kuwaiti and international artists to enhance cultural exchange.
Al-Jassar said the mural reflects the shared maritime heritage of Kuwait and Canada, illustrating the challenges of seafaring and the struggle for sustenance. The artwork depicts “our ancestors diving for pearls in Kuwait and fishing amidst the ice in Canada.”
The Cabinet approved the project in October 2023 under the supervision of Engineer Abdullah Yassin, with the goal of beautifying public spaces. The initiative was launched in February 2024 during the Al-Qurain Cultural Festival, featuring Kuwaiti artists painting murals on electrical transformers in the Al-Masayel area in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity.
Al-Jassar added that the program continues to foster collaboration with international artists, strengthening cultural dialogue and artistic engagement across borders.
