KUWAIT CITY: Art, innovation and professional skills are at the heart of a new Kuwaiti initiative designed to help people with autism and other neurodiverse conditions gain recognition for their talents and access wider opportunities.

The Innovartism Initiative, launched on Sunday, aims to bridge the gap between creative ability and professional opportunity by providing training, creative platforms and development programmes for participants whose talents may otherwise receive limited exposure.

Founder Manal Al-Gharbali said the initiative was established as a comprehensive platform in Kuwait to help neurodiverse individuals develop their abilities and pursue creative, professional and economic goals.

Beyond training, the programme seeks to encourage greater recognition of neurodiverse talent among families, businesses and institutions. Its activities include creative spaces, conferences in Kuwait and abroad, professional development programmes and media campaigns intended to raise awareness and strengthen support for people with autism.

A showcase scheduled for November 1 will allow participants to present their work after completing the training programme. Al-Gharbali thanked those who helped bring the initiative to life, including the organizing partner, Sheikha Fawz Al-Sabah and the families supporting the participants.

Dr Khalifa Al-Hailea said discovering individual strengths and developing them through art, innovation and technology were central to the initiative. The objective is to help participants build their skills and find avenues through which their creative abilities can be expressed and developed.

The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to connect education and rehabilitation with opportunities for employment. Shaikha Al-Subaihi, director-general of the Kuwait Autism Center under the General Secretariat of Awqaf, said the programme creates new possibilities for the center’s beneficiaries. She identified education, rehabilitation and employment as the pillars of the center’s strategy.

Eng Jaber Al-Qallaf, director of the Creative Economy Program at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, said talented individuals need an environment in which they can express themselves and develop their abilities. He described the initiative as a step towards providing the support and tools required to help them progress.

International cooperation was also represented at the launch. Ken Chi-Ping Hu of the Taipei Commercial Representative Office in Kuwait said the office participated following an invitation from Two Words and MB Vision, reflecting its support for education, innovation and social inclusion.

Ho expressed hope that the initiative would encourage further cooperation and create more opportunities for young people to demonstrate their abilities.

With its planned showcase and continuing development activities, Innovartism seeks to move beyond awareness alone by giving neurodiverse creatives opportunities to develop their skills, present their work and explore possible professional pathways.
