KUWAIT CITY, Feb 5: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al- Awadhi affirmed that the recent statistics on performance indicators demonstrate a marked advancement in radiology services, particularly MRI, with the total number of examinations conducted in all radiology departments increasing from 100,183 in 2024 to 113,384 in 2025. In his speech at the annual radiology conference, Al-Awadhi pointed out that the estimated increase of 13.2 percent is the outcome of a carefully planned expansion in the number of diagnostic devices, as well as the diversification of specialized examinations offered to meet the growing and evolving clinical needs. He then stated that the theme of the conference this year, “From Vision to Precision,” embodies the remarkable progress achieved through rapid scientific and technological developments in radiology and medical diagnostics.

He described the conference as a major scientific milestone that underscores the health sector’s commitment to continuous development and to keep pace with global advancements. He affirmed that radiology is the cornerstone of the modern healthcare system, playing a vital role in achieving accurate diagnoses, supporting clinical decision-making, and monitoring patients at various stages of care, thereby, enhancing patient safety and improving the quality of treatment outcomes. He stated that the conference is a leading scientific platform for showcasing the latest innovations, exchanging expertise among specialists, promoting continuing medical education, and supporting the development of national talent by developing their professional and scientific capabilities.

He added that this year’s conference focuses on musculoskeletal injuries – especially sports injuries – due to their prevalence and the advanced role of radiological techniques in accurately diagnosing such conditions and selecting the most appropriate treatment plans. He explained that musculoskeletal examinations account for around 60 percent of all MRI scans, highlighting the vital role of diagnostic radiology, particularly MRI, in the assessment of sports injuries, as well as chronic and complex conditions. He also confirmed the notable reduction in waiting times, as a result of the strategy to expand capacity, enhance operational efficiency, and optimize appointment scheduling systems. He stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and drawing on international best practices to further develop radiology services and expand access to specialized diagnostic examinations in multiple hospitals. He emphasized the need to keep pace with modern developments, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, as a supportive tool for doctors in enhancing diagnostic accuracy, expediting procedures, and improving the overall quality of healthcare services
