Kuwait’s Health Ministry clarifies HPV vaccine guidelines amid online debate
HPV vaccine offers up to 90% cancer protection, says the Health Ministry in Kuwait.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: The Ministry of Health in Kuwait has issued an official clarification addressing public concerns raised by a circulating video regarding the appropriate age group for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination.

In a statement released Sunday, the ministry emphasized that HPV is among the most common viruses globally and is linked to several types of cancer and other preventable diseases. The HPV vaccine, it stated, is a safe and effective means of protection for both girls and boys, capable of reducing the risk of virus-related cancers by up to 90%.

The ministry reiterated that the vaccine is typically administered to children aged 11 to 12, with the possibility of starting as early as age 9. This age group is targeted because the immune response is strongest during these years.

Importantly, the statement clarified that there is no scientific recommendation—either in the public or private healthcare sectors—to administer the vaccine after the age of 45 for preventive purposes. In accordance with global guidelines, the health benefit at that age becomes very limited and does not meet the intended goals of protection.

The Ministry of Health stressed that following scientifically approved recommendations ensures the highest benefit from the vaccine, contributes to public health, and helps safeguard future generations.

The clarification was issued by the Health Communication Center under the handle BOX Kuwait_moh, with a message wishing the public continued health and safety.
