KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Dr. Manar Al-Enezi, who serves as the Head of the Dermatology Department at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital and holds the role of Treasurer in the Dermatologists Association, has affirmed that approximately 30% of skin cases are classified as “eczema,” with the majority falling under the category of “atopic eczema.” Additionally, she highlighted that more than 10,000 cases of this condition affect children under the age of 12, leading them to seek treatment in the nation’s hospitals annually.

These remarks were made during the launch of an awareness campaign focused on “atopic eczema,” which was headed by Dr. Manar Al-Enezi, Head of the Dermatology Department at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital and treasurer of the Kuwaiti Dermatologists Association. Dr. Al-Enezi outlined the campaign’s primary objectives, which encompassed educating the public about the disease, its causes, associated symptoms, and the most up-to-date medical and therapeutic approaches for its management. Furthermore, she emphasized the critical importance of raising awareness about this condition to mitigate its adverse physical and psychological effects on individuals, as well as its impact on their educational and professional performance.

Dr. Al-Enezi pointed out that atopic eczema manifests as dry, itchy, and inflamed skin and is more prevalent in young children, although it can occur at any age. Atopic dermatitis, she noted, is a chronic condition that can vary in severity, occasionally causing discomfort, but it is not contagious. In addition to skin issues, individuals with atopic dermatitis are at risk of developing food allergies, hay fever, and asthma. Regarding the campaign’s execution, Dr. Al-Enezi confirmed that informative brochures and advice were distributed to the public through designated booths within hospital dermatology departments and one at the Avenues Mall. She also mentioned that the campaign had garnered positive feedback and cooperation from the community. By Fares Al-Abdan Al-Seyassah Staff
