Kuwait’s folk soul takes on new beat

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 23: As part of the 18th Summer Cultural Festival, the Original Folk Arts Band presented a musical evening at The Avenues Mall, showcasing a selection of folk and traditional performances that reflect the richness of Kuwaiti cultural heritage. The Original Folk Arts Band is one of the Kuwaiti folk groups registered with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters.

Founded in 2012 and officially recognized in 2022, the troupe performs various forms of Kuwaiti folk arts, including Al-Ardha, maritime arts, Al- Sawt, Al-Samri, Al-Liwa, and Al-Tanboura. Led by Mubarak Al-Shatti, the band has participated in numerous events and festivals both inside and outside Kuwait. The band continues its efforts to preserve Kuwaiti folk heritage, deepen younger generations’ understanding of it, and encourage youth participation in preserving the country’s cultural identity and passing this heritage on to future generations (KUNA)
