KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: The Ministry of Health announced Monday the election of Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Fares, Consultant of Internal Medicine and Intensive Care and Head of the Intensive Care Unit at Amiri Hospital, to the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Societies, marking a significant international endorsement of Kuwaiti medical capabilities.
The Ministry said in a statement that Al-Fareis’s appointment underscores global trust in the expertise of Kuwaiti healthcare professionals and places a greater responsibility on them to actively contribute to the advancement of this highly specialized and vital medical field.
On the occasion of his election, Dr. Al-Fares stated that Kuwait, with its rich pool of human resources and advanced scientific capabilities, is well-equipped to play a central role in shaping the global future of critical care. He emphasized that his election represents not just a personal milestone but also a national one, elevating Kuwait’s presence in international medical circles.
Al-Fares was elected from among candidates representing over 50 countries, becoming the official representative of Kuwait and the Kuwait Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care within the Federation. His appointment marks the first time a Kuwaiti has held a seat on the Federation’s board since its establishment in 1977.
The Ministry noted that this achievement is a testament to Kuwait’s continued efforts in developing its critical care infrastructure and reflects international recognition of its national competencies in the medical field. It added that the election highlights the growing role of Kuwaiti healthcare professionals on the global stage, especially at a time when modern health systems face rapidly evolving challenges.
The election took place during the 17th Congress of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Societies, held in Vancouver, Canada, with participation from thousands of specialists and experts from across the world. The event was held under the patronage of the Canadian Critical Care Society.
The Federation is regarded as the highest global authority in the field of intensive and critical care. It comprises more than 90 national and regional societies, representing over 100,000 physicians, nurses, and technicians worldwide. The organization plays a leading role in promoting high-quality care, advancing medical education and training, and supporting multinational research efforts in the field of critical care.
