Kuwait's CITRA Receives 156 Fraud Reports in July, Websites Top Scam List

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: Kuwait's Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) said it handled 156 reports of fraud and scam attempts during July involving suspicious messages, malicious links and fraudulent phone calls, as cybercriminals continued targeting internet and mobile users.

According to statistics released by the authority, fraudulent websites accounted for the largest share of reports with 54 cases, followed closely by phone calls with 52 reports. Reports linked to WhatsApp totaled 26, while social media platforms accounted for 24 reports.

CITRA urged the public to remain vigilant against online fraud, stressing the importance of reporting any suspicious messages, links or calls immediately to help authorities track and combat cybercrime.

The authority also warned users not to disclose personal, financial or banking information to unknown or untrusted parties, noting that scammers frequently use fake websites, phishing messages and deceptive phone calls to steal sensitive data.

CITRA has repeatedly encouraged citizens and residents to exercise caution when interacting with unsolicited communications and to verify the authenticity of any request for personal information before responding.
