Kuwait’s Al-Fattah Club battles Sharjah in Arab Games

DUBAI, Feb 5: The Kuwaiti teams engaged in the Arab Club Games for Women are set to continue their competitions today. The shooting team will participate in the 10-meter rifle competition, concluding the shooting events with an award ceremony for the top shooters and winning teams.

In volleyball action, the Salwa Club team is scheduled to face the host, Sharjah, at the Khor Fakkan Club Stadium. Simultaneously, the Al-Fatta Club Basketball Team will meet the Sharjah Club Team at Al-Bataeh Stadium. It’s worth noting that the Al-Fattah Club suffered a loss in their previous match against the Syrian Revolution with a narrow margin of three points (80-77).

Salwa Al-Shammari, a basketball player in the Kuwaiti girl team, shared insights in a statement to Al-Seyassah. She acknowledged the team’s strong performance against the defending champion, Jordanian Al-Fuheis, expressing satisfaction despite the loss. Al-Shammari attributed the results to the recent formation of their team and the age range of their players, which spans from 16 to 24 years. She emphasized the invaluable experience gained from participation and expressed gratitude for the organizers, hoping to achieve their goals in future tournaments.

In other Arab competitions, the UAE secured nine medals in fencing, including gold in the epee team and the fluorescent rifle. The Sharjah team claimed gold in the Epee team championship, while the Fujairah Martial Arts Club team clinched gold in the fluorescent rifle against the Sultanate of Oman national team. The final day witnessed the Fujairah Martial Arts Club team securing gold in the saber weapon against the Syrian police team.

The tournament’s significance was highlighted by Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, President of the Arab and Emirati Basketball Federations. He expressed gratitude to Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi for her sponsorship and efforts in hosting the event, praising the organizing committee’s success in creating a memorable opening ceremony. Al Gergawi affirmed the tournament’s role in supporting women’s basketball in the Arab world and emphasized its positive impact on raising the technical level of female players.
