KUWAIT CITY, July 26: A medical team at Kuwait’s Adan Hospital has successfully treated a citizen in her 40s suffering from severe bile duct obstruction caused by an extremely rare congenital anatomical abnormality. The Ministry of Health said in a press statement that the procedure was led by Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Dr. Yousef Al-Tawalah, with the participation of Interventional Radiology Consultant Dr. Mahdi Abbas and a team of specialists.

The ministry said the intervention was successful, with the patient making a full recovery. Her liver function and enzyme levels returned to normal, and she was discharged from the hospital in good health. It noted that the achievement highlights the advanced capabilities of national medical professionals in the field of advanced therapeutic endoscopy and underscores Adan Hospital’s ability to manage complex and rare cases in line with the latest international medical practices. The ministry added that such capabilities contribute to localizing highly specialized services, enhancing healthcare quality and enabling patients to receive advanced treatment within Kuwait.

The statement quoted Dr. Al-Tawalah as saying that since the beginning of the year, more than 120 advanced endoscopy procedures have been performed at Adan Hospital. He added that the hospital also provides a range of highly specialized services, including endoscopic ultrasound for the liver, pancreas and bile ducts, therapeutic stent placement, and double-balloon enteroscopy for examining the small intestine.
