BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, Sept 22: Azzam Al-Mutairi, a talented member of the Kuwaiti Wushu Kung Fu team, is gearing up to participate in the 2024 World Youth Wushu Championship, taking place from September 24 to 29 in Brunei Darussalam. The Kuwaiti delegation departed yesterday for the championship, led by Nasser Al-Loughani, head of the Kuwaiti Wushu Kung Fu Committee and representative of the International Wushu Federation. The delegation also includes Coach Dhari Al-Tamimi and athlete Azzam Al-Mutairi.

Nasser Al-Loughani emphasized that Al-Mutairi's participation in this prestigious global event is a significant source of pride for Kuwaiti sports, particularly given the recent growth of Wushu Kung Fu in Kuwait. He expressed confidence in Al-Mutairi's skills, highlighting his potential to elevate Kuwait's profile on the international youth stage.

Al-Loughani noted that Al-Mutairi has a rich history in the sport, having competed in numerous championships since childhood. He also participated as a "Sanda" player in the World Wushu Youth Championship held in Indonesia in 2022 and has engaged in various Wushu Kung Fu training and officiating courses.

He stated, "The participation in the World Youth Championship comes after the Kuwait Olympic Committee decides to restrict players to one sport, allowing them to focus and excel in their chosen discipline. This initiative supports the development of individual sports, enabling athletes to achieve high-performance levels that contribute to winning medals and accolades for Kuwaiti sports." Al-Loughani added that this approach has prompted the Kuwaiti Wushu Kung Fu Committee to select experienced male and female athletes to represent the sport and Kuwait on the international stage.
