KUWAIT CITY, Feb 15: Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah said on Sunday that Kuwait continues to strengthen the role of women, supported by the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah. The remarks came in a statement to KUNA following a coordination meeting of the National Committee implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325, titled “Women, Peace and Security,” chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Human Rights Affairs Department. She noted that over the past two years the committee observed active roles for women across sectors, notably their acceptance into the military, a steady rise in police participation, and an increasing number of appointments to leadership positions.
The committee reviewed its 2025 achievements to develop mechanisms, enhance coordination among member entities, discuss future directions, review the national strategy, align implementation with UN Security Council Resolution 1325, and set priorities for the year ahead. It also discussed policies and plans for women’s leadership in sports, strengthening their pioneering role, and reviewed international proposals for workshops and training programs to raise awareness of women’s empowerment aligned with Kuwait Vision 2035.
The meeting also stressed marking international women’s days, citing celebrations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and an event by Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies honoring Women Judges Day.
Kuwait attaches special importance to the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325, underscoring the necessity of women’s full and equal participation in peace and security efforts, conflict prevention and resolution, and peacebuilding. (KUNA)
