Kuwaiti woman jailed 15 years for growing hash

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 22: The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti woman to 15 years in prison and fined her KD10,000 for cultivating, trafficking and using hashish, and psychotropic substances. The case was filed after the Drug Control General Department at the Interior Ministry raided the woman’s home. The court found the defendant guilty of cultivating narcotics in her residence and possessing materials and equipment used for cultivating drugs, with the intent to traffic and use them. The search resulted in the seizure of huge quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances, along with equipment used for cultivation and processing.

As for the other defendant -- a Kuwaiti man, the court refrained from sentencing him on the charge of drug use, as his involvement was limited to personal use, without evidence of trafficking or cultivation. The court showed leniency in light of the circumstances of the case. The court indicated in its ruling that the arrest and search procedures were correct and in accordance with the law's provisions, and were carried out based on a valid legal authorization. It rejected the arguments on the invalidity of procedures.
