Kuwait presents ‘Gaps” at Cairo’s 5th International University Theatre Festival.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21, (Agencies): A delegation from the Higher Institute of Theatre Arts, led by the Professor of Acting and Directing, Dr. Raham Al-Awadi, is heading to Cairo to represent Kuwait at the 5th International University Theatre Festival, taking place from October 21 to 27. The institute is presenting the play “Gaps,” written and directed by Sultan Al-Muzain, which has gained acclaim for its compelling narrative.

The Kuwaiti delegation participating in the Cairo International University Theatre Festival, held under the patronage of the Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, consists of 10 students. Dr. Raham Al-Awadi leads the delegation, along with the artistic supervisor Dr. Fahd Al-Muzain. In addition to the students from the fourth-year acting and directing department, the group includes Mohammed Al-Mansouri, a graduate of the institute, and costume and makeup designer Hessa Al-Abbad, also an institute alumna.

“Gaps” is a theatrical work that artfully blends dark comedy with tragedy. It revolves around a group of individuals who dream of living fulfilling lives, only to face numerous obstacles that prevent them from realizing their aspirations. These challenges are so severe that they are prohibited from forming families, laughing, smiling, and even holding on to hope.

The play carries a clear message, encouraging individuals to advocate for their rights and not remain silent, ensuring they do not become mere caricatures in the course of their lives. The play will be performed on the stage of the “Qasr Thaqafa Raud Al-Faraj” Theatre next Monday.

The Cairo International University Theatre Festival, organized by the Egyptian Artists Foundation for Culture and the Arts, with support from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, features 11 theatrical productions representing universities from Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Ghana, Oman, Tunisia, Morocco, and Kuwait. The festival also includes workshops in scriptwriting, acting, and dance, conducted by trainers from Egypt, Morocco, Spain, Austria, and Belgium.

The festival’s opening ceremony will take place on Saturday at the University of British Theatre in Cairo.

It is worth noting that the Cairo International University Theatre Festival was established in October 2018 to provide an opportunity for numerous Arab and international university students to meet and exchange ideas, fostering the development of their creative theatre experiences.
