KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: The Kuwaiti Olympic football team kicked off their journey today in the preliminary rounds of the U-23 Asian Cup, set to take place in Qatar next year. They secured a convincing victory over East Timor, triumphing with a commanding scoreline of 4-0. These matches are part of Group Six fixtures hosted by Kuwait.
The opening goal of the game came early, with Hamad Al-Taweel finding the back of the net in the seventh minute, using a well-timed header. Talal Al-Qaisi extended Kuwait's lead just before halftime, unleashing a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, making it 2-0.
The second half saw more action from Kuwait, with Mohsen Falah adding a third goal in the 53rd minute. Salman Al-Bous completed the scoring for the Kuwaiti team in the 80th minute, displaying exceptional individual skill to place the ball into East Timor's net.
In another match held at Al-Kuwait Club Stadium, the Iraqi national team outperformed Macau with an astonishing scoreline of 13-0. This victory allowed Iraq to take the top spot in the group standings, edging out the Kuwaiti national team on goal difference.
The upcoming round of Group Six matches is scheduled for the following Saturday, featuring two exciting clashes: Kuwait against Macau and Iraq against East Timor.
It's worth noting that the team finishing first in each of the 11 qualifying groups secures direct qualification to the tournament finals. Additionally, the four best second-placed teams will also advance to the finals, ensuring an intense competition for these coveted spots.
