KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Arab Women’s Club Games stand as a significant milestone in the history of Arab women’s sports, providing crucial support, valuable opportunities for interaction, and a platform for healthy competition. This steadfast commitment contributes to the continuous development and progress of women’s sports across various domains.
Kuwaiti clubs are actively gearing up for the seventh edition of the tournament, scheduled to take place in the Emirate of Sharjah from February 2 to 12. Under the patronage of Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and President of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, the event encompasses eight diverse games: athletics, archery, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, fencing, karate, and bow and arrow.
This broad spectrum enables participants to hone their skills, fostering a positive impact and contributing to the advancement of Arab women’s sports on regional and global stages.
Two Kuwaiti clubs, Salwa Sports Club and the Girls Club, are set to participate in the tournament. Salwa Sports Club will compete in volleyball and athletics, while the Girls Club will engage in basketball, karate, and table tennis.
Regarding the participation of Salwa Sports Club, Sheikha Naima Al-Ahmad, the club’s president, said in a statement to Al-Seyassah that the players “stayed, prior to the start of the Arab Women’s Club Games, an intensive internal training camp, and also participated in several tournaments with a number of teams hosted by the club.”
Sheikha Naima Al-Ahmad, President of Salwa Sports Club, expressed gratitude to Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi for her unwavering efforts in empowering women and supporting the tournament. She emphasized the club’s ambitions and commitment to ensuring that women’s sports receive the recognition and acclaim equal to their male counterparts. Sheikha Naeema conveyed hope for victory for the Kuwaiti teams and success for all Arab clubs in this vibrant celebration of Arab women’s sports in Sharjah.
Fadela Al-Shuwailan, President of Al-Fatah Club, affirmed the players’ readiness to compete for top honors. The club conducted preparatory camps in Bahrain, Hungary, and Egypt to ensure peak performance. Al-Shuwailan shared that 12 players would participate in basketball competitions, with three being professionals, while five players would engage in karate competitions. She expressed optimism for securing medals, citing the club’s previous success with second and third-place achievements in the last tournament.
Al-Shuwailan extended gratitude to the Emirate of Sharjah and Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi for hosting this pivotal Arab event in women’s sports. The Girls Table Tennis Club’s previous bronze medal win in the 2020 Games adds to the anticipation of a competitive and spirited event.
In Sharjah, Noura Al Shamsi, Director of the Arab Women’s Clubs Games, thanked all participating Arab clubs and teams for their remarkable engagement. She emphasized the organizing committee’s commitment to ensuring the tournament reaches the highest level of excellence, with a focus on applying technical and operational processes tailored to the requirements of the women’s sports sector. Al Shamsi expressed the committee’s dedication to providing a distinguished experience for players and fans alike.
