Kuwaiti, Syrian get 7 years in prison for forging citizenship

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: The Court of Appeals on Sunday upheld the ruling of the Criminal Court, which sentenced a Kuwaiti and a Syrian to seven years in prison with hard labor after being convicted in one of the most serious cases of forging Kuwaiti citizenship that affected national identity and the foundations of the legal system in the country.

The lower court concluded in its reasoning that the defendants manipulated documents related to their Kuwaiti citizenship by submitting false information with the intention of obtaining the privileges and benefits that the State grants to its citizens. The court emphasized that the actions of the defendants are considered a flagrant violation of the rule of law and pose a serious threat due to the security, social and economic repercussions of citizenship forgery. In its ruling, the Criminal Court stressed that confronting citizenship forgery crimes is a national duty, and that any attempt to tamper with national identity is a serious transgression that should not be tolerated, because it is a direct threat to the structure of society and the rights of citizens.
