Kuwaiti swimmer misses semis

TOKYO, July 29: Kuwaiti swimmer Abbas Qali, competing in the men’s 100-meter butterfly at the Tokyo Olympics Games, finished fourth in his heat Thursday and missed the semifi- nals. Qali clocked 53.62 seconds, not enough to make the top 16 for the semifinals Friday at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Several Kuwaiti athletes will participate, Friday, in a number of events at held at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Kuwaiti swimmer Lara Dashti, aged 17, will take part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo for the first time, competing in the 50 meters category.

In athletics, runner Madhawi Al-Shimmeri will take part in the 100 meters run. Al-Shimmeri had achieved two personal records recently in a competition in Qatar and an international tournament in Bursa, Turkey. In the rowing competition, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhel will go into his last performance in the Olympics. He already lost his chance of winning since July 23, as he will only compete to improve his ranking and points now, (KUNA)
