Kuwaiti surgeon calls for unified Arab efforts to advance thoracic surgery
The first Arab Conference on Thoracic Surgery kicks off in Tunisia with the participation of 19 countries, including Kuwait.

TUNIS, Nov 8: Dr. Yousef Al-Eid, a thoracic surgeon at Kuwait’s Chest Diseases Hospital, on Saturday called for the unification of Arab scientific efforts to develop thoracic surgery and enhance the efficiency of medical personnel in the specialty.

Speaking at the conclusion of the First Arab Conference on Thoracic Surgery in Tunis, Dr. Al-Eid said the event, which drew 300 specialists from 19 Arab countries alongside international participants, represents a significant step in advancing thoracic surgery in the Arab world and promoting the exchange of expertise.

He praised the high level of organization and the broad participation of academic surgical centers across the region, noting that Kuwait’s active involvement strengthens Arab scientific cooperation.

In addition to Dr. Al-Eid, Kuwait’s delegation included Dr. Issa Al-Ghunaim, consultant thoracic surgeon, who participated via video conference. Both doctors delivered scientific lectures on the latest treatment methods and modern surgical techniques for chest diseases, highlighting evidence-based practices and minimally invasive procedures in lung and mediastinal surgery.

Dr. Al-Eid also took part in specialized workshops and coordination meetings with colleagues from various Arab countries to enhance cooperation and facilitate the exchange of scientific expertise. The meetings included field visits and medical exchange programs, allowing Arab physicians to observe surgical procedures at centers across the region.

The three-day conference featured over 60 scientific presentations by 65 speakers, alongside 180 research papers showcasing the latest innovations and technologies in thoracic surgery. Participants had the opportunity to explore advancements in medical technologies, particularly the integration of artificial intelligence and robotic surgery in the specialty.
