Kuwaiti Shooter Abdullah Al-Tarqi Triumphs with Gold at Asian Games

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 27:  In a momentous achievement, Kuwaiti shooter Abdullah Al-Tarqi clinched the first gold medal for Kuwait and the second overall at the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Al-Tarqi’s victory came in the highly competitive skeet shooting competition, making his win even more remarkable as he had overcome an injury.

Al-Tarqi displayed exceptional skill and determination, hitting all 60 targets in the final, earning him the coveted gold medal. His flawless performance outshone his competitors, with Indian shooter Naraka Ajas securing second place and the silver medal, while the bronze medal went to Qatari shooter Nasser Al-Attiyah.

The President of the Kuwaiti Shooting Sports Club, Duaij Al-Otaibi, attributed this remarkable achievement to the unwavering support of His Highness the Crown Prince, who not only met with Kuwaiti youth athletes during his visit to China but also attended the opening ceremony. His support greatly motivated the athletes, resulting in the proud moment of the Kuwaiti national anthem playing at this edition of the Asian Games.

Al-Otaibi dedicated this triumph to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti people, and the Kuwaiti shooting community. He praised Al-Tarqi’s stellar performance and expressed hopes for more medals in the remaining shooting competitions at the Asian tournament.

He emphasized that these victories underscore the significance of sports in Kuwait, thanks to the support of the country’s political leadership. Al-Otaibi also expressed pride in Kuwaiti shooting’s impressive results on the international stage.

In a call following his victory, Abdullah Al-Tarqi expressed overwhelming happiness and dedicated his gold medal to the leadership and people of Kuwait. He acknowledged the tough competition throughout the qualifiers and the final rounds, particularly from Indian and Qatari shooters. Al-Tarqi credited his success to his unwavering focus and determination, coupled with divine grace.
