Kuwaiti sentenced to 5 years for insulting Amir, financing ISIS

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 10: The State Security Court of Appeals has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to five years in prison after finding him guilty of a series of state security-related offenses, including insulting the authority of the Amir, financing ISIS and promoting the group's ideology.

The case followed the arrest of the defendant by the State Security Agency and his referral to the Public Prosecution, which charged him with publicly impugning and defaming the person of the Amir and insulting the Amir's authority.

According to the charges, the defendant was also accused of financially supporting ISIS, receiving training from leaders of the group in the manufacture of explosives, and learning the methods and means required to produce explosives with the intention of using them for an unlawful purpose.

The prosecution further accused him of promoting ISIS ideas through social media platforms while residing in Kuwait and engaging in activities deemed harmful to the country's national interests.

The State Security Court of Appeals subsequently handed down the five-year prison sentence in the case.
