KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to life imprisonment for attempting to murder a lawyer by shooting him. According to the case file, the suspect’s former wife had filed a number of cases against him through her lawyer, which was the reason why the suspect wanted to kill the lawyer. He found an opportunity to do so when he saw the lawyer leave his office with an Asian expatriate and head to his vehicle.

The suspect tried to run over them with his vehicle and when they fell on the ground, he shot at them. Four bullets hit the lawyer and one hit the Asian expatriate. The suspect fled from the location but later surrendered himself to the security authorities. The court decided to sentence the defendant to life imprisonment after confirming that he does not suffer from any mental problems.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution Thursday released Dr Sheikha Al-Jassem, who was accused of religious contempt, following two hours of investigation during which she denied the allegation. She affirmed that she never meant to make any malicious statement against the Holy Quran when she compared it to the Constitution. Earlier, some lawyers petitioned the Public Prosecution against Dr Sheikha Al-Jassem after she recently released a statement pertaining to the Quran and Constitution. This led to criticisms in the social media by many bloggers and activists. Defending the Quran, they said it is a divine scripture that cannot be compared to any manmade document.
